I really liked this adaptation of Disney's Snow White. I thought all the actors were perfectly chosen for their role. You wouldn't consider this a "typical" chick flick; however, I enjoyed the flourishing romance, the vain witch and her tortured nature, and the hottness of Chris Hemsworth. The only negative was that I had a stupid group of girls who were obnoxiously loud during pivotal moments in the movie. Had it not been for my husband, there would have been some words exchanged, popcorn thrown, and potentially even a smack down. I'm getting heated just retelling the story.
I avoided this movie...not sure really why. I think I wanted a super sappy movie or a movie I thought would be worth two hours of my time. Larry Crowne was actually quite entertaining and I felt like Tom Hanks grabbed his friends and said, "Hey, do you want to do a movie?" and they jumped on board. I think if I would have known Tom Hanks directed it, I would have been more enticed; however, I was in need of a chick flick fix and it accomplished my goal of relaxing entertainment. There was a weird spin with a younger chick relationship...that could have been adjusted. In the end, you were rooting for the characters and that's when you know its a good chick flick.
This movie is definitely worth two hours of your time! Coming out tomorrow on DVD, I'm excited to see it again! Your boyfriend/hubby will like it, mom will like it, friends will like it...the movie reaches a variety of audiences! Granted, I'm a bit biased because I'm a huge Reese Witherspoon fan, but she has let me down lately with some crappy movies (Four Christmases or How Do You Know and even Water For Elephants). I wasn't sure how the boys would do, but they held their own. Chelsea Handler's appearance was comical but Reese Witherspoon stole the show. She was the sexy, sassy actress I know she can be and reminded me why I love chick flicks so much! My husband said the "guy's friendship" was unrealistic...men don't have in-depth conversations, but at least it was action and chick flick together!
Of course there were two reasons why I was worried about this movie: #1 Cameron Diaz (we all know she over does it in chick flicks) and #2 Too many actors and feared a second New Years Eve castastrophe! However, I was pleasantly surprised by this movie's ability to bring a tear to my eye. Perhaps its because I'm a mommy and can relate, but I felt it went deeper than that. The women were relateable in their own way and Elizabeth Banks stole the show as the best "mommy" of the group. The surprised hightlight was the "daddy's group" perspective! You ached for the women and laughed with the men. Yes, there were some cheezy parts and maybe could have done without a few characters, but this was definitely worth the matinee viewing with a girlfriend!
