Vacation Hiatus...back on track!

I was a bit sidetracked with vacation and hadn't updated my blog in awhile.  Luckily my followers are non-existant so I'm primarily just talking to myself in a blog.  Oh well, its still fun!  I wanted to get a bit proactive and tell you what movies I plan to watch in the month ahead:

1. Hope Springs: Comes out August 8th- watch trailer below...

2. Sparkle: Comes out August 17th (love me some Whitney)- watch trailer below...

3.  Bachelorette: Comes out September 7th- watch trailer below...

Girl Power falls flat with "Brave"

What a bummer this movie turned out to be...in lieu of amazing Disney classics these last few years (Toy Story 3 & Tangled), Brave missed so many things that makes Disney great: singing, love story, adorable and creative sidekick characters, etc.  Yes, this was the first attempt in a Disney Princess movie to show the bond between a mother and Daughter...look at the list below:

Princess Rapunzel: Mean fake mother
Princess Jasmine: No mother
Princess Snow White: Mean stepmother
Princess Aurora: Nonexistant mother
Princess Ariel: No mother
Princess Tiana: Bond was with father although mother was around
Princess Mulan: Again, bond with father and mother was a sidenote
Princess Pocahontas: No mother
Princess Cinderellla: Mean stepmother
Princess Belle: No mother

However, it fell flat.  The girl power was there with this "standing up for what you believe in" attitude, but disrespecting mother to get it done...I don't know, sounds alot like today's world.

Magic Mike...not that magical!

Honestly, this movie was a little much for me.  Yes, there were hot men with their shirts off stripping on top of women.  They could dance with the exclusion of one man.  Unfortunately it was a little too distasteful for my liking...two words: penis pump.  The acting was sub-par and I have to say the supporting actors saved the movie...Alex Pettyfer and Cody Horn were the only decent actors in the group.

The only reason this movie had success is because it is in conjunction with the crazy, sexually-infested series "50 Shades of Grey."  The women were lined up around the block for the opening night and my mother was one of many who was dying to see it.  Personally, I'm going to side with my husband and say if the roles were reversed, we'd be a little upset.  Yes, there is always Striptease, but the boys weren't lining around the block to see it!

Snow White and the Huntsmen...a MUST SEE!

I really liked this adaptation of Disney's Snow White.  I thought all the actors were perfectly chosen for their role.  You wouldn't consider this a "typical" chick flick; however, I enjoyed the flourishing romance, the vain witch and her tortured nature, and the hottness of Chris Hemsworth.  The only negative was that I had a stupid group of girls who were obnoxiously loud during pivotal moments in the movie.  Had it not been for my husband, there would have been some words exchanged, popcorn thrown, and potentially even a smack down.  I'm getting heated just retelling the story.

Honestly though, it was great. The first really good movie I've seen in awhile.  Husband/Boyfriend proof!

Larry Crowne...pleasant surprise

I avoided this movie...not sure really why.  I think I wanted a super sappy movie or a movie I thought would be worth two hours of my time.  Larry Crowne was actually quite entertaining and I felt like Tom Hanks grabbed his friends and said, "Hey, do you want to do a movie?" and they jumped on board.  I think if I would have known Tom Hanks directed it, I would have been more enticed; however, I was in need of a chick flick fix and it accomplished my goal of relaxing entertainment.  There was a weird spin with a younger chick relationship...that could have been adjusted.  In the end, you were rooting for the characters and that's when you know its a good chick flick.

This Means War was hot!

This movie is definitely worth two hours of your time! Coming out tomorrow on DVD, I'm excited to see it again!  Your boyfriend/hubby will like it, mom will like it, friends will like it...the movie reaches a variety of audiences!  Granted, I'm a bit biased because I'm a huge Reese Witherspoon fan, but she has let me down lately with some crappy movies (Four Christmases or How Do You Know and even Water For Elephants).  I wasn't sure how the boys would do, but they held their own.  Chelsea Handler's appearance was comical but Reese Witherspoon stole the show.  She was the sexy, sassy actress I know she can be and reminded me why I love chick flicks so much! My husband said the "guy's friendship" was unrealistic...men don't have in-depth conversations, but at least it was action and chick flick together!

Pleasant Surprise for What to Expect movie

Of course there were two reasons why I was worried about this movie:  #1 Cameron Diaz (we all know she over does it in chick flicks) and #2 Too many actors and feared a second New Years Eve castastrophe! However, I was pleasantly surprised by this movie's ability to bring a tear to my eye.  Perhaps its because I'm a mommy and can relate, but I felt it went deeper than that.  The women were relateable in their own way and Elizabeth Banks stole the show as the best "mommy" of the group.  The surprised hightlight was the "daddy's group" perspective!  You ached for the women and laughed with the men.  Yes, there were some cheezy parts and maybe could have done without a few characters, but this was definitely worth the matinee viewing with a girlfriend!
